June 2019 Events & Awareness Days
June Events and Awareness Days

Hello to June and what a beautiful month it is!  There’s lots happening this month as we officially welcome Summer on Friday 21st June with the Summer Solstice, the longest day of year with the most daylight hours, will you be off to Stonehenge to see the sunrise?

Support your local chippy!

Now in it’s fifth year, National Fish and Chip Day awaits us on Friday 7th June. As one of the nations favourite suppers, surely it’s our duty to fall in line and enjoy a chip butty? As most of our precious fish and chip shops are still independently owned, go and support your local chippy!

Look out for Bristol brewed Gins!

It’s the Queen’s Official Birthday on Saturday 8th June and also World Gin Day (is this deliberate, will it be Gin o’Clock for the Queen at Buckingham Palace?) There’s plenty of locally made gins on the market to sample too, buy Bristol Dry Gin online here https://www.bristoldrygin.com/shop.html and if you’re not already familiar with 6 o’Clock Gin, brewed in Bristol and bottled in our famous Bristol Blue Glass, see here for stockists https://www.6oclockgin.com/stockists/.

Encourage Healthy Eating in your Workplace

It’s Healthy Eating Week, ran by the British Nutrition Foundation from Monday 10th June to Friday 15th June. The aim is to encourage workplaces, schools and universities to focus on healthy eating and drinking and exercise, as well as promoting sleeping well.  That’s lots of research that shows a healthy and active workforce leads to better output and productivity, as well as a happier place to work.   Take up the challenge of healthy eating and drinking this week and see if you and your colleagues feel healthier and happier by the end of the week.

Check out Bristol’s Microbreweries

It’s Fathers Day on Sunday 16th June, make a beeline for the local independent gift shops before you hit your Amazon Prime app! On the same weekend we have Beer Day Britain. Get behind your local Brewers on Saturday 15th June (or take your Dad out for a few), as the national celebrates our favourite tipple! Whether you stay in with friends or get out to one of Bristol’s many microbreweries, go local if you can. Here’s a list of the Top 10 Microbreweries in Bristol https://www.yelp.co.uk/search?find_desc=Microbreweries&find_loc=Bristol

Take your best friend to work

For all you dog lovers out these, it’s Take Your Dog To Work Day on Friday 21st June. Take your best friend into the office, shop or out on a job with you, I’m sure they will be a hit with your customers!

If you’re up for a bit of Bristol fundraising, it’s Wallace & Gromit’s Wrong Trousers Day on Friday 28th June.
